Chic Holiday Hostess Gifts

I love Thanksgiving! It truly is one of my favorite Holidays.  My fondest memories growing up were at my grandma’s house on Thanksgiving.  I was convinced she had magical cooking powers.  She woke up in the middle of the night to start the turkey.  By 2pm, there were tons of beautifully plated dishes on the table.  As I got older and started paying more attention in the kitchen, I discovered what my grandma’s magical cooking powers were.  Everything was semi-homemade! She just added her own flair and made sure she paid attention to detail when serving these semi-homemade dishes.  This memory is what inspired today’s post.

I get all the “feels” when I think of personalizing a gift for someone.  These simple holiday hostess hacks will be sure to leave your gracious hosts feeling appreciated and extra special.

I shared these ideas LIVE on Fox 5 San Diego check out the clip here!

HACK #1 Upgrade a Store Bought Pie!

Things you will need:

Pumpkin Pie preferably from Costco it’s delish, HUGE and only $5.99

For the pie crust leaves

Pie Crust (Trader Joe’s)

Leaf Cookie Cutter (or any cookie cutter you like)

Step 1:

Before you roll out your dough let it get to room temperature.  If it is too cold it will tear.  Once it’s at room temp roll out your dough.

Step 2:

Press your cookie cutter into the dough.

Step 3:

Place your cutouts onto a cookie sheet that is lined with parchment paper.

Step 4:

Bake at 400 degrees for 7-9 minutes (watch carefully these brown quickly)

Step 5:

Place leaf cut outs on pumpkin pie.  Place as little or as many as you like.

or for the Sugared Cranberry Topping

1 12oz bag of fresh cranberries

2 cups of sugar

I used this simple recipe from for my sugared cranberries.

Step 1:

Place sugared cranberries on your pumpkin pie.  Place as little or as many as you like.  That’s it! Easy right?!?!

HACK #2 Place store bought items in something new!

Things you will need:

Costco cookies, they are delish and only $6.99!

Copper basket ($3.99) & decorative dish towel (came in a 3 pack for $4.99).  I purchased both of these items from Home Goods, they have the chicest items at great prices!

Step 1:

Place the dish towel in the center of the basket.img_5899

Step 2:

Place cookies inside.  (My niece couldn’t wait to try one!)

Don’t tell my sister but she ate almost 3 while I shot these photos.  I told you they were good!

Step 3:

Fold towel over cookies.  It’s that simple and it looks soooo much more beautiful than the plastic box they came in.img_5915
